The Isle of Open Source 2011 - Villa Bighi, Kalkara, 20-21 October 2011

What do Google, Microsoft, Linux, US Navy and the local company MARSEC-XL have in common? The answer will be provided at the Isle of Open Source 2011 (IOOS2011) conference being held this week on 20 and 21 October at Villa Bighi in Kalkara.

For the first time, Google, Microsoft, Linux and the US Navy will meet in Malta at the IOOS2011 groundbreaking conference organised by MARSEC-XL, the local Marine Software Engineering Cluster of Excellence.

Among the high profile delegates are Bror Salmelin – Advisor to the Director at Directorate General Information Society and Media at European Commission, Prof. Tony Wasserman of Carnegie Mellon Silicon Valley University, Juergen Allgayer – Director of Engineering EMEA and YouTube Test Lead at Google Inc., Mr. Mark Gayler – Open Software Evangelist of Microsoft Corp., Brian Womble – Deputy Director Open Architecture at the US Navy.

The IOOS2011 conference is based on global interest generated by MARSSA, the Marine Systems Software Architecture, a revolutionary Maltese high technology for the marine and yachting industry. Originating from Malta and launched in February, MARSSA has grown into the first Community Driven project in the marine industry with a global outreach.

Today MARSSA has a global community reaching 75 expert contributors and is continuously growing. MARSSA will revolutionize the entire yachting and marine industry and has been described by one of the directors at Linux Foundation as “Probably the most disruptive technology in the marine industry since the steam engine”.

At IOOS2011, in addition to keynote presentations and interactive sessions there will be a live demonstration of The Demon-Strator, a prototype boat packed with the MARSSA technology.

The event will provide unique networking and business development opportunities for the local and international ICT, yachting and maritime companies.

Those interested in attending are to send an e-mail to events@marsec-xl.org and request an invitation to the Isle of Open Source 2011 event.
